Netgear FS108P 8 port switch with 4 port PoE review

I needed a PoE switch for doing VoIP demos and for use in my office with my SIP VoIP phones. After searching high and low for the lowest cost solution I settled on the Netgear FS108P. So far I have been pleasantly surprised. As it turns out the switch is contained in a solid metal case which is rare for a low cost switch these days. The advantages of a metal case are that it dissipates heat better and is more sturdy so less possibility of damage to the electronics inside due to warp-age or maybe if someone steps on it :). Metal also holds the connectors better which makes them less susceptible to breakage due to mechanical forces and wear and tear.

It is rated to run up to 4 full power PoE devices such as VoIP SIP phones or wireless access points. All 8 ports have lights but the 4 PoE ports also have indicators to show PoE operation and fault conditions. The switch has fail safe intelligent features so it can auto sense if you plug a regular device into a PoE port and will switch off the power to that port thus preventing any possible damage to the device you are plugging in.  It comes with a lifetime manufacturers warranty.  All in all I am very happy with this purchase.
